ABOUT US

Ecolibri Foundation works to improve education, economy, health, environmental awareness and social independence for the communities of the Lake Atitlan region of Guatemala.

Sustain. Educate. Collaborate.

WHERE DO WE WORK?

Ecolibri Foundation has two office branches, one in San Marcos la Laguna, Guatemala and the other in Prague, Czech Republic. The scope of our work is largely based around Lake Atitlán, where we collaborate with local communities, through the generous support of our international donors, to inspire and educate individuals to sustainably reach their full potential in life and create new opportunities for development.

The Central Guatemalan highlands are a phenomenal setting with an incredibly rich and diverse culture of people. We warmly invite volunteers and sponsors to get involved with our projects and activities!

WHAT DO WE DO?

Ecolibri Foundation is a registered nonprofit organization. We work to support indigenous communities within the Lake Atitlán region of Guatemala, through a range of responsible projects including: child sponsorship, sustainable stove construction, music projects and an international artist residency program. Our small team works hard to realise creative and respectful endeavours. We have partnered with Inka Foundation, the leading Czech institution for the sustainable development in education in Latin America, to enhance the reach of our work. Would you like to get involved with us? Read more below about some of our projects...

OUR WORK & PROJECTS

OUR WORK & PROJECTS

Support. Inspire. Create.

chilD SPONSORSHIP

Did you know that Guatemala has one of the highest illiteracy and lowest school enrollment rates in Latin America? We sponsor local children from the poorest families around Lake Atitlán to have basic materials and pay school fees to attend school. Want to help sponsor a child in Guatemala to have a better quality of life? Learn more...

STOVE CONSTRUCTION

For most of us, cooking meals on our stoves is a little less than a daily (inconvenient) part of life. In Guatemala, many families suffer from severe life-threatening health problems due to improperly constructed stoves. We provide materials and support for local families to construct sustainable, safe stoves for daily cooking. Learn More...

Music Projects

We all know how important music is for the soul. That's why Ecolibri supports local budding musicians to learn traditional and new instruments through purchasing and maintaining instruments. We want to inspire the next young generation of musical talent and seek international musicians to join us and collaborate on our projects. Learn more...

artist residency

With jaw-dropping landscapes, incredible textiles, sustainable building and living opportunities, and an incredible culture, Guatemala is the perfect spot for artists, scholars and students to develop new ideas and work. We have established a new multidisciplinary international artist residency program, come join us! Learn more...

Anzan Retreat, 22 - 28 January 2017

From 2017, Ecolibri will play host to dedicated retreats promoting healthy organic living, sustainable practices and the local indigenous culture around Lake Atitlan. Learn more...

VOLUNTEER STORIES

VOLUNTEER STORIES

For over 12 years, Ecolibri has taken leadership in many international collaborative projects to support the field work in the communities of Lake Atitlán. Over these years, Ecolibri has had numerous volunteers, without their dedication and commitment, much of our work would not have been possible. Read some of our volunteer testimonials below.
